Freebie – Angel Buttons

On Thursday, 17 July 2014 Malaysia Airlines’ flight MH17 en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, was shot down by a surface-to-air missile while flying over Ukraine. All 298 passengers and crew on board were killed. Among them were 193 Dutch people, my fellow country men and women. I feel grief for them and their families, as well as for the other passengers and their families in Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Philippines, Canada, New Zealand and the USA. There are thought to have been some 80 youngsters and 3 infants on board.

When I heard the terrible news last week, I was working on a bright colored, summery freebie. I’ve not been able to finish it. I wasn’t in the mood for bright, cheerful colors. My mind kept wandering and I kept thinking of those poor people and their families. I also feel anger and disgust at the disrespectful way the crash site is being treated and the fact that the bodies of loved ones are not yet returned to their families.

So instead, I made these angel buttons. I dedicate them to the lost ones of flight MH17.
